MEDIA RELEASE: OPORTO WOMEN’S PREMIERSHIP

In season 2024, for the first time the premier women’s rugby league competition in the Hunter region will have a naming rights partner. It with great excitement that we can announce Oporto restaurants as the naming rights partner for the competition which will be known as the Oporto Women’s Premiership.

The Oporto Women’s Premiership will take place as part of Newcastle Rugby League match days, however clubs from within the region that are not currently part of the Newcastle Rugby League competitions will be able to participate if they are of appropriate standard. The Oporto Women’s Premiership final series will be run at the same time as the men’s Denton Engineering Cup final series, culminating in the Grand Final in September at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Also, for the first time in 2024 all the Oporto Women’s Premiership matches will be filmed by Bar TV, who currently film all the men’s Newcastle Rugby League matches. Coaches of the Oporto Women’s Premiership teams will have access to post-match technology which allow coaches to cut clips from matches to assist the coaching and skill development of their players.

Newcastle Rugby League General Manager said “I’m ecstatic to have a partner of the quality of Oporto to help us elevate the women’s competition in the Hunter. Also, to have Bar TV film the Oporto Women’s Premiership means that the coaches can access vision of their matches which will give them another tool in the coaching of their players”.

Oporto Brand Manager, Anna Kiernan added “We are thrilled to be supporting women in sport through our sponsorship with the Newcastle women’s premiership. We hope that this partnership can assist all athletes to soar to their highest heights”.

Not only are Oporto the naming rights sponsor of the premier women’s competition in the Hunter, but they are assisting the women’s game throughout the Hunter by supplying water bottles to every women and girls team in the Newcastle, Coalfields and Lake Macquarie areas and every rugby league participant in the area will be eligible for a 10% discount card that can be used at all Oporto restaurants on the Central Coast and in the Hunter.

Finally, in another boost for women’s rugby league in the region all of the stakeholders in the rugby league associations (Hunter JRL, Newcastle & Hunter Rugby League, Newcastle Rugby League, NSWRL and the National Rugby League) will have representatives on a women’s participation committee that will come together and make recommendations on a range of issues that are lacing women’s rugby league in order to help shape all women’s and girls’ competitions in 2024 and beyond.
