South Newcastle is one of three remaining foundation clubs in the Newcastle Rugby League.
Their home ground, Townson Oval in the heart of Merewether is one of the most picturesque local footy grounds in the world. Some famous players have worn the Lions jersey over the years including former Australian representative Les Johns, Sione Mata’Utia and even NBA star Ben Simmons.
