In 2026, the Newcastle Rebels will take the field in green and cinnamon brown, marking a return to the Club’s traditional post-World War I colours and honouring the proud history of Newcastle Rugby League.
These colours pay tribute to the World War I 35th Infantry Battalion, nicknamed “Newcastle’s Own” — a battalion raised in our region that became a symbol of courage, resilience and mateship. Following the Great War, Newcastle Rugby League adopted these colours in recognition of their service and sacrifice, embedding that legacy into our game’s identity.
More than a jersey, this is a tribute to our history — to the men who served, to the strength of our community, and to the generations who have represented Newcastle in rugby league with pride.
When the Rebels run out in 2026, they will do so carrying forward both the legacy of “Newcastle’s Own” and a proud return to our traditional colours.
